Health Visiting

SIX WEEKS

At around six weeks you can expect your child to be able to do the following:

 

Physical

  • When on tummy will lift head for a short time
  • Has grasp reflex- when stoke babies outstretched palm baby will grasp finger
  • Will follow an object or person with both eyes

 

Cognitive

  • Becoming more alert
  • Eye to eye contact is deliberately maintained
  • Sucks well

 

Social and emotional

  • Smiles at about six weeks
  • Startled by sudden noises

 

Speech and language

  • Cries when hungry or uncomfortable
  • Turns to voices
