WHAT DO WE EXPECT FOR A CHILD?

To become continent, a child develops a number of processes which allows them to gain voluntary control over when they pass urine or empty their bowels.

These processes usually begin to develop from between six to twelve months of age, when the bladder capacity increases and the frequency of passing urine decreases.

By the age of four, a child is generally able to remain dry for two to three hour intervals and pass urine five to eight times per day.
