Health Visiting

SIX MONTHS

At around six months you can expect your child to be able to do the following:

 

Physical

  • Can roll over from front to back
  • Will take weight on legs when held and bounces
  • Plays with feet when laying on back
  • Sits upright when supported

 

Cognitive

  • Passes toy from hand to hand
  • Stares at toys and tries to reach out and grab them
  • Forgets about a toy if hidden

 

Social and emotional

  • Holds hands up to be lifted
  • Will shake rattle deliberately
  • Likes to look at himself/herself in a mirror
  • Friendly to everyone (around seven months does not like strangers)
  • Likes to play with adults

 

Speech and language

  • Squeals and laughs
  • Turns to familiar voices responds to own name
  • Makes babbling sounds
  • Responds to own name
  • Makes babbling sounds
