Health Visiting

NINE MONTHS

At around nine months you can expect your child to be able to do the following:

Physical

  • Sits without support
  • Can get into sitting position from lying down
  • Will pull to stand and take weight on feet (cannot lower self down)
  • May crawl
  • Rolls over both ways

Cognitive

  • Puts objects in mouth
  • Drops toys deliberately and watches as it falls
  • Plays pat a cake, peek a boo and claps hands
  • Looks for hidden toys

Social and emotional

  • Has a favourite toy
  • Interested in everything around them
  • Recognises family members
  • Clingy to familiar adults
  • May be afraid of strangers

Speech and language

  • Understands bye and no
  • Copies simple sounds
  • Babbles making different sounds e.g. mamma
