HOW TO DO BREAST COMPRESSION

Start breast compression when your baby’s feeding slows /stops or when you do not hear baby sucking and swallowing well.

While your baby is sucking, with your free hand, place your cupped hand round your breast against the chest wall.

As your baby sucks, gently compress the breast, keeping the breast compressed until baby pauses for a breath and then release the pressure. Repeat with the next burst of sucking.

Watch for your baby taking bigger swallows and repeat compression until it no longer works.
